AIWA’s Achoura and Fundraising

Dear Members and Guests,

You are cordially invited to AIWA Fundraising and Fun-time to celebrate Achoura!

Achoura is a Moroccan celebration that takes place on the 10th day of Moharam, which is the first month of the Islamic Hijri year. Families, friends and neighbours meet to have special meals like “couscous” or “trid”, to end it up  with giving alms (zakat)  to those in need. Children and adults often buy traditional drums “taarj” and “toys” for kids with the ultimate aim of making them happy throughout the 10 days of Achoura. They meet on that day to play their drums, to sing, to dance and eat dried fruit “fakia” with tea.
